Nebbiolo Continues to Shine in the Hilltops
October 21, 2009
The Hilltops' reputation for producing high-quality, cool climate red wines was enhanced this week with news that Grove Estate's 'Sommita' Nebbiolo was awarded the "Best Young Red Other Varieties" at the 2009 NSW Wine Awards.
The NSW Wine Awards celebrate small, new and unique boutique producers, emerging wine regions and alternative varietals.
The 2007 Grove Estate 'Sommita' Nebbiolo was recognized by the judges of the 2009 NSW Wine Awards as being a well balanced boutique red wine that exhibits floral notes and a mix of dark berry fruit flavours and savoury spice with balanced tannins.
The 2007 'Sommita' Nebbiolo is a multi-award winning wine that has previously won Gold at the 2009 Winewise Small Vignerons Awards, Gold at the 2009 Sydney International Wine Show, Silver at the 2008 Alternative Varietals Wine Show and Bronze at the 2008 Murrumbateman Cool Climate Wine Show.
The 2007 'Sommita' Nebbiolo is made by winemaker Richard Parker, and viticulturalist is Brian Mullany.
Grove Estate has enjoyed consistent recognition as an award winning red wine producer. The Grove Estate 2006 Shiraz Viognier Reserve won a highly coveted Gold medal at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards in London last year and the same wine also won the top gold in its class at the 2007 Royal Adelaide Wine Show, along with silver medals at the 2007 Winewise Small Vignerons Awards and the 2007 Boutique Wine Awards.
Nebbiolo is a classic Italian variety that flourishes in the cool, inland Hilltops region. At an elevation of around 550 metres, Grove Estate enjoys an environment where the days are warm enough with cool evenings for gradual flavour development and aromatic complexity.
Grove does it again:
"Hilltops acquitted itself well at the NSW Wine Awards, with two trophies going to exceptional red wines from the region: Grove Estate Sommita Nebbiolo 2007 and Freeman Rondinella Corvina 2004."
