Brian Ignatius Mullany, Viticulturalist.
Tim
Brian was reared and raised in Young by Michael and Bernadette Mullany, who migrated from Ireland in 1956 and moved directly to Young in NSW. Brian was the 5th of their 11 children. After attending NSW University, he returned to Young to work on the family Cherry Orchard.

In 1989 the opportunity arose to buy a 140 acre bare block of land with the Kirkwood and Flanders families, with the intention of planting Wine grapes and Cherries. Brian was awarded the position of working manager and established Grove Estate (the original property was known as Cherry Grove) which became the benchmark property of wine production in the Hilltops area.

In 1997, Brian together with Kirstin Munroe at Charles Sturt University made Grove Estates first wine - a Cabernet Sauvignon. He followed this with the help of Jay Tulloch to produce a range of wines made in the Hunter Valley by First Creek Wines and later by Madrez Wine Making in Orange.

Today, the Grove Estate wines are made by Brian's close friends Tim Kirk and Richard Parker, who are both located at Murrumbateman.

Brian married Suellen Patterson in Murringo in 1989 and at this stage they have three wonderful girls: Alexandria, Lavinia, and Harriet. Brian is happy answering most business related questions with "that should be OK - we'll see how it goes", and most family related questions with "No I don't think that would be right". If you would like to ask any tricky questions of Brian send an email you never know - you might get a similar reply.

Richard Parker, Winemaker.
Richard
Richard is the wine maker at Long Rail Gully Wines, Murrumbateman. He has completed a winemaking degree at Charles Sturt University and has travelled extensively nationally and internationally refining his craft.

Richard operates a new state of the art winery and is regarded as a perfectionist. Having setup his own vineyard and winery producing wines under his own label has reinforced Richard's belief that careful management of all the steps from vineyard to barrel to bottle are critical. These factors ensure the wines he makes are always excellent quality, allowing the grapes and the various regions to express themselves as they should.

Richard planted the grapes at Long Rail Gully in 1998. Long Rail Gully has since won over 80 national and international medals in 4 years of showing the wines, not to mention the many more won by wineries who have their wine made at Long Rail Gully.

Richard runs a successful contract winemaking business, making wines for various wineries from a spread of NSW wine regions and producing varietal wine styles suited to that region, including Nebbiolo, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Chardonnay to name a few.

Richard has been enthusiastically making Grove Estate wines since 2006, helping to produce award winning wines for the Grove label.
